Re-Animation

Isaiah 29:16

16 You turn things upside down,
as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!

Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it,
“You did not make me”?
Can the pot say to the potter,
“You know nothing”?

I imagine a lump of clay, lying on a potter’s wheel. Just a lump. No form, no shape. But the Potter gave it lips and eyes. It has no power, kinetic entergy or animation. It can do nothing without the Potter doing it for him. The lump couldn’t even roll off the wheel and out the door if it wanted.

It can do nothing on its own. But yet it lies there and mouths. This little helpless, powerless lump, complains about its shape, ponders it worth and purpose, mocks the very presence of the Potter by suggesting that the lump made itself. It become arrogant and creates theories and myths to explain his surroundings, it longs for another lump that it can share its existence with, ignoring the Potter all together.
The lump is loud and obnoxious. It is pompus and proud. And it is unaware of its pathetic condition.

He has no power. No Kinetic entergy. No animation.

We are that lump. We are nothing without him. We have no tangible power over ourselves or anything else. We have no kinetic power to do any good without him in us. We have no life (animation) without him breathing it into us, and we have no ability to live rightly unless the Holy Spirit lives in us.

And can you imagine how ridiculous, laughable even, that we look. Down here on the wheel. Just a sad little mass that is yelling and talking and griping and complaining and lying and exaggerating and self promoting and over dramatizing about everything we think we know. As if a lump of clay even has a brain? Not without the Potter making him one and animating it to think.

We become arrogant and creates theories and myths to explain our creation and surroundings, we longs for another lump that we can share our existence with, ignoring the Potter all together. We question his intentions in making us and for what purpose did he mold us? We make demands of our existence in order to make our lumpiness, comfortable.

So in this ridiculous state that we are in: lying on the potter’s wheel, most of the time the only option for the Potter has is to smash us. Silence our arrogance. Re-establish authority and mastership.

Bring us back down to the very basic existence of clay. Earth, Water and His hands. He has to knead us and works us.

And as we are molded back into submission, he can create something new out of us. He can re-animate his creation. And give it life, purpose, structure, beauty and a message.

He can touch the mess, and animate it into his message.

I don’t want to be a lump. I want to be Christ’s claymation. Re-animated into something he can use.
