A day of Hope

Yesterday was what I'm calling out day of hope. We had our first appointment at Children's Hospital for Jax's Cleft lip and palette surgery consultation. It started off a little rough, because we got there, something had gotten lost in translation and they didn't have our appointment in the system. But they were gracious and so prompt to fix it and squeeze us in.
When we finally got back to see Dr. Buckmiller, we talked to several people about nutrition and then the surgeries over the next 18 years. Which was ALOT of information, but all the Doctors made everything so positive and encouraging.
Jax's is doing so well feeding and is in a good percentile for his age ( which is seven days old, today!) that they are real pleased with how soon they could get his lip repair scheduled. The process that we have started now is taping. Which means that we pull Jax's lip closer together with tape. This helps close in the gap and helps bring his nose over some, so that by the time he has the lip repair, the tissue and the nose are closer together and easier to work with.
We were so proud of our Jax's. He slept almost the whole time, even through his first taping!

Dr. Buckmiller scheduled a lip adhesion as the first step, (on 5-12-09 but if the taping works well, then we will just cancel that and wait just two more weeks to do the whole lip repair. (on 5-29-09). Then the next step, the palette repair will be done when Jax's 10-12 months old.

We are so thankful for all the great people we met yesterday, all the helpful, encouraging information that we got and the hope of Jax's future!

I'm glad all went well!
You couldn't be at a better hospital than Children's.
